Brand Eagsouni

Cheap garden clogs that don’t try to be more than they are

I’ve been using these Eagsouni unisex garden clogs for a few weeks now, mainly for quick trips into the garden, taking the bins out, and runs to the local shop. I grabbed the blue pair in size 7.5 UK. I wasn’t expecting anything fancy at this price, just something easy to slip on that I wouldn’t cry over if they got caked in mud or wrecked at the beach. That’s basically what you’re getting here: simple plastic clogs that do the job.

Out of the bag, they feel like what they are: budget rubbery clogs with a mesh-like upper and a lightweight EVA-style sole. No big brand feel, no fancy packaging, no tech story. Just shoes. Personally, I like that. I’d rather they spend the money on making them reasonably comfortable instead of adding pointless extras. They’re also unisex, which is handy if you’re sharing between family members or buying for someone else.

I’ve worn Crocs and a couple of supermarket own-brand clogs before, so that’s what I’m comparing them to in my head. Straight away, these feel lighter than the cheap supermarket ones, but a bit less cushioned than genuine Crocs. You can tell where the extra money goes with the big brands, but for knocking around the house and garden, these are fine. They’re not trying to be performance shoes; they’re basically rubber slippers with holes.

If you’re expecting something stylish or long-distance-walking friendly, you’ll probably be underwhelmed. If you just want something you can kick on to water the plants, go to the pool, or nip to the shop, they make sense. They’re not perfect, and there are a couple of annoying points I’ll get into, but for the price, they’re pretty solid everyday beaters.

Value for money: solid price for what you get

★★★★★ ★★★★★

When you look at the price these usually go for on Amazon and the fact they sit high in the best seller rankings, it’s pretty clear why people buy them: they’re cheap and they work. You’re not paying for branding or fancy tech, you’re paying for a lightweight rubber clog you can trash without caring too much. Compared to big-name clogs like Crocs, they’re noticeably cheaper, and for basic use, they’re honestly not that far off in terms of comfort.

If you only need them as garden shoes, pool sandals, or something to leave by the back door, they’re good value. You get decent comfort, okay grip, and easy cleaning at a low cost. For families, you could kit out a couple of people for the price of one pair of branded clogs, which is nice if you know they’re going to get lost, left at the beach, or chewed by the dog. The 4.1/5 rating with a lot of reviews also matches my experience: generally positive, with some quirks.

On the downside, the value drops a bit if you want them to double as proper walking shoes or serious work footwear. That’s not what they’re built for, and if you push them into that role, you’ll probably be disappointed and wear them out faster. Also, the static issue indoors could be a deal-breaker for some people, and the wide fit won’t suit everyone. There’s better stuff out there if you’re willing to pay more for a stronger sole, better support, and more precise sizing.

For me, as a casual user, I’d say the value is good but not mind-blowing. They get the job done, they’re comfortable enough, and if they die after a couple of summers, I won’t be too bothered. If you go in with that mindset – cheap, practical clogs for light use – you’ll probably feel the price is fair.

Design: functional, a bit chunky, but breathable

★★★★★ ★★★★★

Design-wise, these are very much in the “garden shoe / knockabout clog” category. Closed toe at the front, plenty of ventilation holes, and a backstrap you can either use behind the heel or flip forward to turn them into slip-ons. The blue colour on mine is quite standard: not flashy, not ugly, just a simple solid blue that hides dirt reasonably well. If you’re used to Crocs, the overall shape will feel familiar, just a bit more mesh and a little less solid plastic.

The upper is a kind of mesh fabric fused onto the rubber base. That mesh makes them more breathable than full-plastic clogs, which is nice in warm weather or if your feet tend to sweat. Walking around the garden or to the shop, my feet never felt like they were cooking. The trade-off is that they don’t feel as sturdy as fully molded clogs; I wouldn’t trust them for heavy digging or really rough jobs. They’re more for light use: watering, pottering about, going to the pool, casual walks.

One thing to know: the fit is on the wider side. I’ve got fairly average-width feet and they felt roomy. If you have narrow feet, they might look and feel a bit like “boats”, which one of the reviewers also mentioned. If you have wide feet, that might actually be a plus, as you won’t feel squeezed. There’s no adjustability apart from the backstrap, so you can’t really tighten them beyond that.

In terms of style, let’s be honest: they’re not going to win any fashion awards. They look like practical clogs meant for chores, holidays, and trips to the pool, and that’s exactly what they are. If you’re okay with that “functional” look, they’re fine. I wore them with shorts and joggers and didn’t feel ridiculous, but I wouldn’t wear them on a night out or to the office. They’re basically: chuck on, get stuff done, don’t worry about them.

Comfort: very light, decent cushioning, but watch the fit and static

★★★★★ ★★★★★

Comfort is probably the main reason you’d buy these, and on that front they’re pretty solid for the price. The first thing you notice when you put them on is how light they are. They almost feel like you’ve just slipped on thick socks with a sole. For quick errands or wearing around the house and garden, that lightness is great. I’ve done a couple of full days of on-and-off wear (cooking, cleaning, going outside, etc.) and my feet didn’t feel tired or sore.

The cushioning is medium. The sole has a bit of give, but it’s not super soft or bouncy. If you’re used to very cushioned trainers, you’ll notice the difference. Compared to generic supermarket clogs, though, these are more comfortable and feel less like hard plastic under your feet. Standing in the kitchen for an hour or two in them is fine. I wouldn’t choose them for a full day of walking around a city, but that’s not really what they’re meant for.

Fit is where it gets a bit mixed. As mentioned, they run on the wider side. For my average-width feet, they were relaxed and roomy, which I personally like for this type of shoe. If you have narrow feet, you might find they feel a bit sloppy unless you use the backstrap. The strap helps keep your heel in place, but it doesn’t tighten the shoe much. There’s no lacing or adjustment, so if the base fit is too big, that’s it. If you’re between sizes and have narrow feet, I’d lean towards the smaller size.

One odd thing: static. One reviewer mentioned they got nasty static shocks wearing these indoors, and I’ve had a bit of that too on certain floors (laminate and synthetic carpets). Not constant, but enough to notice on dry days. It seems to be a mix of the rubber sole and the flooring. Outdoors it’s obviously not an issue, but if you live in a very dry house with a lot of synthetic carpets, it’s something to be aware of. Overall, though, for light, casual use, the comfort level is decent and better than I expected at this price.

Materials: light rubber and mesh, nothing fancy but does the job

★★★★★ ★★★★★

The materials here are pretty straightforward: EVA rubber outsole, rubber insole, and a mesh upper. Everything feels very light, almost like foam, which is nice for comfort but does make you wonder about long-term durability. After a few weeks of casual use (garden, shops, a couple of beach trips), mine still look fine: no cracks, no peeling, no weird deformation. I wouldn’t call them tough, but for normal light use, they seem to hold up.

The outsole is where these do okay for the price. It’s flexible and has a basic tread pattern that actually grips decently on dry and slightly wet surfaces. I used them on wet patio slabs and in the kitchen and didn’t feel like I was sliding all over the place. On really muddy ground or very wet grass, don’t expect miracles, but that’s true for most clogs like this. They’re not work boots, they’re just casual rubber shoes.

The mesh upper is what gives them that breathable feel. It lets air in but still keeps most small stones and bits of dirt out. The downside is that it doesn’t feel as protective as a full rubber upper. If you drop something sharp or heavy on your foot, you’ll definitely feel it more than with solid clogs. Also, the mesh will probably stain more easily if you’re messing around in thick mud or oil. So again, fine for gardening and walking, not ideal for tougher jobs.

As for the insole, it’s just a rubbery base, molded into the shoe. No removable insert, no fancy foam. It wipes clean easily, which is good if you wear them without socks. I’ve rinsed mine under the tap a few times and they dry fairly quickly. Overall, the materials feel like what you’d expect for budget clogs: light, practical, easy to wash, but not something that will last for years of heavy abuse.

Durability: fine for casual use, probably not for years of abuse

★★★★★ ★★★★★

Durability is always a bit of a guess with cheaper shoes, but after a few weeks of regular use, I can at least say they’re not falling apart immediately. The sole is still intact, the tread hasn’t worn down noticeably, and the mesh upper hasn’t frayed. I’ve rinsed them with a hose several times and left them to dry in the sun, and so far there’s no cracking or warping. For a budget pair of clogs, that’s a decent start.

The EVA rubber outsole feels like it will handle a fair amount of everyday wear: trips to the bin, garden, supermarket runs, and holiday use. I wouldn’t expect it to last like a proper hiking shoe, but that’s not the point. On rough concrete and gravel, you can feel that the material is softer than what you’d get on more expensive shoes, so if you wear them every day on abrasive surfaces, expect the tread to flatten out over time. Still, at this price, if they last a couple of summers of on-and-off use, that’s good enough for me.

The weak spot is probably the mesh upper. It’s comfortable and breathable, but if you catch it on something sharp (nails, brambles, tools), it will tear more easily than solid plastic. I’ve brushed mine against rough edges and so far it’s okay, but you can tell it’s not heavy-duty fabric. Also, because the upper is more fabric-like, it will show stains a bit more than full plastic clogs. Mud washes off, but things like oil or paint will likely mark it permanently.

Overall, I’d say the durability is acceptable for light to medium use. If you treat them like cheap workhorses and don’t care if they get battered, they’ll probably give you decent mileage. If you want something to last years of daily, heavy gardening or work use, you’re better off putting more money into sturdier shoes or boots. For casual wearers, though, they seem to hold up well enough.

Performance in real life: garden, pool, and quick walks

★★★★★ ★★★★★

I’ve used these clogs in the situations they’re clearly designed for: gardening, quick walks, and as pool/beach shoes. In the garden, they’re handy to slip on and off by the back door. They handle light jobs well: watering plants, sweeping, taking rubbish out, moving pots around. The soles grip fine on dry slabs and compact soil. In heavier mud, they start to feel a bit out of their depth. The tread clogs up quickly and you don’t get much ankle support, so I’d switch to proper boots for real digging or anything heavy.

At the pool and beach, they make more sense. They’re water-friendly, don’t absorb much, and dry reasonably quickly. I wore them around a pool area and on wet tiles, and they didn’t feel slippery. The ventilation means your feet don’t feel soggy, and if sand gets in, you can just rinse them. They’re definitely a good option as travel shoes for holidays, since they’re light in a suitcase and can do double duty as both pool shoes and around-the-hotel footwear.

For walking, I’d say they’re fine for short distances. I’ve done 20–30 minute walks in them to the shops and back without any problems. The light weight helps, and the sole is flexible enough that your feet don’t feel like they’re fighting the shoe. But there’s not much arch support and not a lot of structure, so I wouldn’t use them for long hikes or all-day city sightseeing. Think of them more as upgraded slippers you can wear outside.

Indoors, they work as house shoes, but with that static caveat I mentioned earlier. On tile or wooden floors they’re okay, but on some carpets I did get a couple of zaps touching metal door handles. Not a deal-breaker for me, but slightly annoying. So, overall performance: good for light garden work, holidays, and casual wear; not ideal for serious outdoor jobs or long-distance walking.

What you actually get when you open the parcel

★★★★★ ★★★★★

When these turned up, the "unboxing" was about as basic as it gets. Plastic bag, shoes inside, that’s it. No box, no fancy tissue paper, no booklet. Personally, I don’t care, these are garden clogs, not luxury trainers. But if you like nice packaging or plan to give them as a gift, just know it’s very bare-bones. They look exactly like the photos on Amazon though, so at least there’s no surprise there.

The first thing I noticed was the smell. There is definitely that fresh-from-the-factory rubber/plastic odor. The product description even warns about it, and they’re not lying. It’s not unbearable, but it’s noticeable when you first open the bag. I left them on the balcony overnight and by day two the smell had mostly gone. If you’re sensitive to chemical smells, give them some air before wearing them inside the house.

Build-wise, nothing jumped out as badly finished. No big glue marks, no sharp plastic bits. The edges around the holes and the strap are reasonably clean. You can tell they’re mass-produced in big batches in China, but I didn’t see any defects on my pair. The sole is one piece, the upper is a breathable mesh-like material fused to the rubbery base. It’s not premium, but it doesn’t scream “total rubbish” either.

Overall, the presentation matches the price bracket: cheap, simple, and straight to the point. If you’re buying these as a practical item, you’ll be fine. If you want something that feels special out of the bag, this isn’t it. For me, I just tossed the bag, put them on, and started using them. No drama, no surprises, just very basic clogs ready to get dirty.

Pros

  • Very lightweight and reasonably comfortable for casual, everyday use
  • Breathable mesh upper and water-friendly materials work well for garden, pool, and beach
  • Low price compared to big-brand clogs while still feeling usable and easy to clean

Cons

  • Wide fit can feel sloppy on narrow feet and look a bit bulky
  • Not ideal for heavy gardening, long walks, or serious work use
  • Can cause static indoors on some floors and has a noticeable factory smell at first

Conclusion

After using these Eagsouni unisex garden clogs for a while, my overall feeling is pretty simple: they’re decent budget clogs that do the job if you keep your expectations realistic. They’re very light, breathable, easy to slip on, and comfortable enough for everyday bits like gardening, taking the bins out, going to the pool, or walking to the shop. The materials are basic but not awful, and after a few weeks of use, mine are holding up fine. The smell out of the bag is real, but it fades after a day or two of airing.

They’re best suited for people who want cheap, practical footwear and don’t care much about looks or brand names. Great as house shoes, garden clogs, or holiday sandals that you won’t stress about losing or ruining. If you have wider feet, the roomy fit will probably feel good. If you have narrow feet or want something for long walks or heavy gardening, I’d look elsewhere. The static issue indoors and the slightly “boat-like” look on slim feet are worth keeping in mind.

Overall, I’d rate them as a solid, no-frills option: not exciting, not terrible, just a pair of clogs that earn their keep around the house and garden without costing much. If that’s what you’re after, they’re worth a try. If you want serious support, long-term durability, or a cleaner look, you’ll need to spend more on a higher-end pair.
